64 graduate as lawyers

The success of a nation depends on its people and the leader.
PNG as a nation is on the edge of developing something special and needs professional, transparent and accountable lawyers in the workforce to uphold law and order problems in the country.
 Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia told the graduates of the Legal Training Institute (LTI) during its graduation ceremony yesterday at the PNG Institute of Public Administration.
“We need more citizens like you to uphold law and order. I believe that you have the opportunity to transform the statistics of law and order problems in our country,” he said. 
Speaking on the theme: transparency and accountability, Sir Salamo congratulated the graduates and gave practical tips to avoid corruption.
“Your success is in the hands of your principles and employees,” he said.
He urged them to make wise decisions and choose carefully someone who had integrity, honesty and prepared to take responsible of their career, work within guidelines, use  skills that have been acquired to perform tasks at a professional level and having the courage to say “no” in what they thought was wrong.
A total of 64 students graduated comprising of 42 males and 22 females.
Out of the graduates, several students were awarded prizes for their outstanding performances while others received special merit awards.
 The dux or the Supreme Court award was awarded to Emmanuel Rere.
He also received another four awards, three awards under module one –  lawyers skills and professional conduct and one in module two – civil practice and procedure, while Asher Waffi received awards in research in legal practice and legal aid award and Ore Ore received the awards in criminal practice and procedure and commercial law practice.
When giving the closing remarks, LTI deputy director David Lambu described the graduates as agents of change and the best students for the year and believed they would create a positive impact in the workforce.
