FOUR men who allegedly held up staff of Tropicair at the Jackson Airport in Port Moresby in 2016 and taking more than K1.1 million, were given jail sentences totalling 65 years.
Justice Panuel Mogish at the Bomana National Court on Friday said apart from the (William) Kapris case, this was probably the second biggest robbery involving a large amount (K1,195,000) and had been carefully planned and executed to the last detail.
Justice Mogish sentenced Alphonse Lance Moha, 42, from Tarawe village, Siassi in Morobe, to 16 years imprisonment. He deducted four years and five days spent in custody.
Moha will serve 11 years, 11 months, three weeks and two days at Bomana Prison.
Donald Joe Steven, 33, from Anumba village, Okapa in Eastern Highlands, was jailed for 18 years.
Steven had a prior conviction for robbery committed at the BSP Foreign Exchange Branch at Jackson International Airport terminal three months before the Tropicair robbery.
He was jailed for 10 years for that conviction.
Justice Mogish said no pre-remand period would be deducted (from his 18 years) and that sentence would commence at the expiration of his earlier prison sentence.
Jason Yvia Kawi 37, from Boiken village, Wewak, East Sepik, was jailed for 16 years in which three years, seven months, two weeks and four days were deducted for time in custody.
He will serve 12 years, four months, 1 week and three days.
Charlton Erick, 40, from Butibum village, Lae, Morobe, was sentenced to 15 years in jail. Three years, seven months, two weeks and four days were removed, he will serve 11 years, four months, one week, three days.
