THE Teachers Service Commission and the Education Department have created 80 new positions for the Flexible Open and Distance Education (Fode) around the country, says an official.
Principal of national Fode centre Anthony Rayappan told The National yesterday that they would be posting teachers out to provincial Fode centres.
Teachers assigned to Fode were appointed by the commission.
“I am thankful that the commission and the Education Department have created 80 new positions for Fode throughout the country so we will be posting those teachers to the centres,” Rayappan said.
“We started last year but there are still many vacancies available because teachers are not aware of them.
“So this year, we are hoping that this vacancies will be filled.”
He said 22 Fode centres, which operate under the Education Department, had been established around the country. Rayappan said the provincial divisions and provincial authorities could partner with them.
They do have private arrangements, private partnership with the national Fode, he said.
“There is one coordinator in each provincial Fode centre and to assist the coordinator, there are Fode positions available for teachers,” he said.
“We appointed some teachers and still there are many positions vacant.
“We are going to advertise very soon before recruiting teachers.”
