9,600 Grade 10s sit Fode exams

A TOTAL of 9,600 Grade 10 students are sitting the flexible open and distance education (Fode) examination nationwide, says an official.
Fode principal Anthony Rayappan said the National Capital District and Central Fode programme had 2,700 students sitting the exams.
He said the Grade 10s started on Monday and would finish on Friday.

Rayappan said the Gr 12 Fode students would be sitting their exams next Monday. He said all lessons were covered and the students were ready to do the exams.
Rayappan said the students attended four weeks of tutorials organised by Fode teachers prior to the exams.

He said the Coronavirus pandemic did not impact their programmes because the students all followed hygiene and health protocols.

“We expect that all students who have enrolled with Fode must have a minimum of Grade 12 qualifications and successful completion rate,” he said.
He said this year, there was an increase in student enrollment because of the free education policy for Fode.
Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said a total of 31,817 Grade 12 students would be sitting their national exams across the country.

He urged each province to ensure that students were given all the support they needed.
