THEY say that behind every successful man is a strong hardworking woman. Add supportive to that.
Mother of three Lois Gumeyu, 34, wants to see her husband Gumeyu Bais succeed in his work as a pastor. So she recently completed a two-year training programme at the Evangelical Lutheran Church PNG Stang Wokmeri Training School in Morobe.
“My husband is a pastor with the church and for me to do nothing at home is not good. I have to work with him and provide that support he needs to carry out the duties that God wants us to do in serving others.”
They are based at the Ranara church circuit in Madang district.
Lois has a primary school education background and believes she can do more to support her husband in pastoral work.
On Friday Nov 29, she received her certificate from the Stang Wokmeri Training School at Markham in Morobe with eight other women from the church districts of Goroka, Yabem and Madang.
She thanks her husband for supporting her in attending the training.
“I feel the call came from God himself for me to take the two-year training and go back to share his messages to others.”
The Stang Wokmeri Training School has been training women from church districts to administer God’s words.
Lois received her certificate in front of her Ranara circuit church members, husband, family, course mates and guests, and pledged to support her husband.
“Going back to my district, I have many responsibilities to take care of like administering the word of God, caring for the family, supporting my husband and helping relatives and those I work with.”
She promised to do what is best for her and her work in serving God and her family, using what she had learnt during the two-year course.
She feels she had benefitted a lot from it.
Gumeyu admits he sent his wife to school because he needs her support in his work.
“After graduating as a pastor and later getting married, I found out that my wife did not have the knowledge to support my work. That is why I have to send her to this school for her to cope with me in my duties.”
Despite the many challenges he went through in supporting the family apart from serving God, he is happy.
He urged pastors to support their wives in such trainings so that there is support from both partners in administering God’s messages to the people they serve.
“Now I am happy that both of us will be able to share responsibilities at home and in serving God.”
