DO not be fooled by this picture – this not a scene captured at any of the beautiful shorelines or in any of the majestic lakes or mighty rivers across the country.
This woman was photographed while she was mooring her canoe at the shore of the biggest swamp at the fringes of the Gerehu and Morata suburbs in Port Moresby.
As this picture shows, she was returning from harvesting edible kango leaves as can be seen in the canoe.
The kango leaves thrives on water-borne areas and in Port Moresby, this famous greeny leaf flourishes in the swamp that stretches from Gerehu Stage five all the way to the Morata settlement. – Picture courtesy of Soweto Youth Fish Farm Pilot Project of Morata and CJLU.
