A whopper

 This huge european carp, weighing about 20kg, was caught at PNG Power’s Yonki dam, Eastern Highland province, yesterday morning. It measured just over a metre and was immediately bought for K60 by the principal of Landmark Valuers, Manevi Gene, at the roadside market near the dam,along the Okuk Highway. “We thought we would never find a fish this big in the Highlands lakes and fresh waters as such catches were usually recorded on the coast,” Mr Gene said. He said this was his first time to see such fish in the Highlands because such big fish were strange in their area. Kombo Inaru (left) and  Apeko Hove helped Mr Gene (centre) haul the catch to Goroka. The Gene family spent all day yesterday feasting on the fish.
