Abandoned market a breeding ground for thugs
The National, Wednesday February 26th, 2014
THE recently abandoned temporary market place at Sabama needs to be fenced up to keep out illegal betel nut and mustard vendors.
The presence of these vendors is attracting drug addicts, and marijuana is also being openly sold and consumed here.
As a result, there are daily occurrences of females being harassed and valuables like mobile phones and money being forcefully taken.
There is a need for immediate attention by the appropriate authorities prevent nasty situations.
There is need for swift action.
Last week, I witnessed two females being robbed while bystanders watched.
I shouted at the heavily-drugged thugs to leave them alone, but was threatened with a knife.
Luckily, a private security van drove by and as soon as the thugs saw it approaching, they ran across the Kila-Kila village cricket field and stayed under the rain trees.
It is better to act now then to be sorry.
Over to you, responsible authorities.
