Abau gets materials
The National, Monday February 8th, 2016
BUILDING materials and equipment worth of K3 million have left Port Moresby last Friday for Abau in Central.
Abau MP and Minister for Public Service Sir Puka Temu had a photo session with his electoral officers, contractors, local level government (LLG) representatives and teachers at the Bismark Maritime Shipping dockyard showcasing the materials before the vessel’s departure.
The materials were purchased under Abau district services improvement programme (DSIP).
The materials that would voyage for three days to Amazon Bay include a computer laboratory and three bedroom staff houses for Magarida High School, 70,000 roofing iron sheets for Amazon Bay LLG rural housing project and other materials for the Magarida LLG.
Sir Puka said delivering such services to rural areas was not an easy task but as leaders it was their mandated duty to ensure people enjoyed such privileges and Government services.
“I hope that the roofing iron will transform the lives of our people of Magarida Amazon Bay LLG,” Sir Puka said.
“I know mothers will weep openly because these are some of the life changing services that they require from their mandated leader.”
He said credit should be given to the O’Neill Government for directing money straight from Waigani to the districts.
“Though I am a three-term Member of Parliament, I have seen massive improvements in the rural areas under this Government,”
Sir Puka said.
“This Government is giving money directly to the districts with the set up of the district development authority (DDA).”
Sir Puka said Abau was not the only district to experience services and improvement in the rural areas but other districts in the country experienced similar changes too.
He added that Abau now has a good road network unlike before and they continued to fix up some roads.
He commended Central Governor Kila Haoda for fostering a good partnership with all MPs as they looked forward to the develop province.
Amazon Bay local level government electoral officer Anton Natave said, finally people would see some improvements in their lives.
