A man from Abau, Central, has appeared before the court charged with stealing almost half a million kina.

He has been remanded in custody at the Bomana jail outside Port Moresby.

Isaiah Guda, from Lopong village, appeared in the Waigani Committal Court last Friday charged with false pretense and stealing by false pretense under the Criminal Code Act.

Court files stated that between July 20 and Aug 21 last year, Guda was alleged to have produced a fake document for a notice of certificate of recognition at the BSP branch in Port Moresby in the company of two other people.

It was alleged that Guda persuaded the bank officer and withdrew K444,745 from the account of a Moga Incorporated Land Group.

At that time, there was a court order placed on this particular account which restricted money from being withdrawn.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar ordered him to be remanded while waiting for his lawyer to apply for bail.
