Abavu starts pre-season training with Gurias

Queensland Cup premiership-winning back Bland Abavu is currently in preseason training camp with the Agmark Gurias in Kokopo.
Abavu could be joined by SP Hunters teammate and centre Israel Eliab after the NGI Nines in Kokopo at the end of the month.
The inclusion of the pair would boost coach Steven Nightingale’s side who were already a title contender heading into the new season.
Abavu and Eliab were overlooked by Hunters coach Michael Marum for the season but were told they could be considered later in the year.
The pair apparently missed preseason training and Marum responded by enforcing the club rule on the pair.
Gurias coach Steven Nightingale has already settled on the core of his side but will scout for talent during the NGI 9s at the end of the month.
Although the Gurias have not released their squad for the new season, the bulk of the side from last year’s grand final is expected to be retained.
Former Gulf Isapea back Jojo Forova is expected to join the Gurias after leaving the club mid-way through last season.
