ABG wants censorship desk

THE Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) wants to set up a censorship desk in the province to help people understand the role of censoring information and its implications, the Censorship Office says.
The office said in a statement that an invitation came from the Department of Justice and Legal Services within the Autonomous Region of Bougainville for establishing a censorship desk on Bougainville.
Arob Department of Justice and Legal Services officers Robert Aneisia and Luke Clancy met with PNG Chief Censor Jim Abani in Port Moresby to start discussions on the process of setting up the censorship desk.
The aim of the talks is to bring censorship responsibilities to Bougainville under the current political arrangement as provided for under the Bougainville Peace Agreement signed by the national government and the ABG on August 30, 2001.
“The censorship function is a very important function; however, people are not aware of the role of censoring information and the implications and that is why ABG wants to establish that function in the region.”
Abani said it would be an opportunity for the office to make known its roles and functions in Bougainville.
