Abuse case adjourned
DEFENDANT Adam Chin Cheah, 18, of Malaysian background and charged with sexual penetration of a girl in a Port Moresby hotel last July, will return to court for a ruling on Sept 14.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Paul Nii, who had earlier struck out the victim’s statement because it didn’t comply with Section 94 (1) (A) of the District Court Act, will make a ruling on the statements of other witnesses which were not affected by the girl’s statement. Cheah’s lawyer yesterday opted not to make any further submissions on insufficiency of evidence and told the court to consider his submissions filed last Nov 19 to come up with the ruling.
The filed submissions were also responded to by Police Prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam.
Since Magistrate Nii has a lot of rulings for the next month, he fixed Sept 14 for a ruling on Cheah’s case.
His bail was extended with conditions.
