KUMUL Petroleum Holdings Ltd (KPHL) managing director Wapu Sonk says the Kumul Petroleum Academy (KPA) is a testament to the state company’s vision to give Papua New Guineans opportunities to work in oil and gas sectors.
Speaking at the academy’s graduation on Friday, Sonk said (KPHL) as a national oil and gas company had invested in human resource development with a quality facility established and staffed by experienced trainers and field professionals to train young men and women to the highest standards.
Sonk said he was receiving reports of former KPA graduates being employed across the industry and performing well in their fields.
He said in this way the academy was achieving its aim.
Sonk said the 2019 graduates were the first trainees to receive the city and guild certification.
He urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the academy and their employers.
He said the trainees at KPA were all on guaranteed job training as they were sponsored by major companies such as ExxonMobil, KPHL, Oil Search, Total and others.
“Being selected to be in the academy is a privilege as you will receive world class training to be skilled and competent to take up jobs in the oil and gas sectors and other major industries,” Sonk said.
He said after passing out of KPA the graduates would be employed by their sponsoring companies.
Sonk acknowledged sponsors especially ExxonMobil, Oil Search and Total for their support in developing the local workforce.
