Accessibility key to economic development, says Dua

IMPROVING road accessibility is key to driving other economic and social developments, Chimbu Governor Michael Dua says.
Dua, accompanied by provincial executive council members, made surprise visits to road and bridge maintenance and construction projects undertaken by his government last week.
These included the Dokor Bridge linking the Gumine and Kundiawa-Gembogl.
“Many times we talk about big things and try to do big things,” Dua said.
“We end up not achieving these bigger dreams and plans.
“This is simply because those small and basic things that we are supposed to fix first are pulling us back.
“That’s why I wanted to fix basic things first: Road is one.”
Dua said some roads were already being attended to by open MPs.
He said his government would support and partner MPs on road projects.
“Once all our roads are fixed, we will then look at avenues to empower our people economically, like coffee, vegetable farming and others,” Dua said.
“By then there will already be access to good markets and other benefits.
“We are now fixing Kagai-Gena Road.
“Our next target will be to start fixing the road from Last Kiari in Salt Nomane to Gumine and connect to Kundiawa.
“Chuave MP Wera Mori is already making progress to fix roads in his electorate.
“Likewise Karimui-Nomane MP Jeffrey Kama and all our open MPs.
“That is in line with our plan at the provincial government.”
