Accommodate haus krais in Act

Letters

AS far as culture is concerned, for any typical community – from the Highlands to the coast and/or on distant islands – haus krai (a mourning house) is a deep-rooted practice that carries with it many customary obligations involving lots of resources as food, money and time.
It is a culture that promotes lazy people.
There is no law saying you have to do this or that when someone dies, but haus Krais have become part of our culture that it cannot be easily done away with.
It has now become a big burden and headache to our national politicians who, on a daily basis, are receiving request after request from people begging contribution towards a death in their family or community.
I felt for an MP who said his personal funds were fast depleting as a result of attending to too many issues related with haus krais.
Whichever political party forms the new government after the 2022 General Election must propose and enact a new law to accommodate haus krais into Public Finance Management Act to be given recognition to be part and parcel of an MPs’ authorised expenditure.
