ACCOMMODATION in Goroka has been booked out for the next two years at least, an official has confirmed.
A member of the Goroka show committee Enoch Mieh revealed this during South Pacific Brewery’s (SPB) presentation of K10,000 for the show last week.
“We sincerely apologise to international tourists and visitors who cannot make it into Goroka due to shortage in accommodation, catering and related services because they were all booked out three to four years ahead,” he said.
Mieh said the facilities had been booked out for 2020 (64th) and 2021 (65th) shows because the show was now a well-recognised tourist attraction.
He said tourists who could not find accommodation in Goroka could stay in Port Moresby and fly to Goroka (for the show) and back.
Mieh thanked SPB for being one of the first corporate sponsors for September’s show.
“SPB has been a longtime sponsor of the Goroka Show,” he said.
“It was supporting the show back in the ’60s and ’70s.”
Meanwhile, show chairman Keryn Hargreaves said hundreds of overseas tourists were booked to come from Asia, America, Europe and Australasia.
Tourists have made prior bookings three to four years in advance just to come to the Goroka Show, she said.
Major hotels in the area like the Bird of Paradise and the Pacific Lodge and other guesthouses were fully booked, she said.
