Accused in Brown River murder case faces charges

A SUSPECT alleged to have been involved in the murder of a woman at Brown River, Central, was brought to the Central Committal Court yesterday to face charges.
Magistrate Alex Kalandi arraigned Moses Amat, 22, from Maini village, Goilala, Central on the charge of murder after he allegedly took part in the killing of Mary Ivoro on Dec 27 last year.
Police allege that on Dec 27, Amat was with six accomplices drinking alcohol at Motumotu village in Brown River from 7am to 3pm.
The victim walked past them trying to go to her garden.
They followed her.
The men allegedly threatened Ivoro with knives before pinning her to the ground and raping her.
After the incident, Amat allegedly killed her by hitting her on the head, neck and hands with a knife.
Ivoro’s body was discovered the next day near the garden by villagers.
The villagers identified the seven suspects.
Five were arrested and charged.
Amat was captured by police at Kaugere settlement and was formally charged on Jan 16.
Magistrate Kalandi adjourned the matter to Feb 20 and ordered that Amat be remanded at Bomana.
