Accused in drunken brawl out on K300 bail

A MAN charged with grievous bodily harm was granted K300 bail by Magistrate Cosmas Bidar in the Waigani Committal Court in Port Moresby.
Pangia Keni Awaseo, 40, of Kokopi village, Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, was told to comply with the conditions that he should not interfere with state witnesses, reside within the city, not drink alcohol and report to the Waigani Court Registry every two weeks.
It was alleged that on Nov 16, at section 225, allotment 36, Kunai Street, Hohola One, Pangia attacked and injured Teomo Awaseo.
Police files indicated that Awaseo was drunk when he approached Teomo and his wife Aditar Mou and verbally abused them before striking Mou.
Teomo stepped in to protect his wife and fought with Pangia Awaseo. The fight was stopped by family members.
On Nov 22, Teomo went to Port Moresby General Hospital for treatment on a sore right arm where it was discovered that he had broken bone.
He reported the matter to Hohola police station after which Pangia Awaseo was arrested and charged for one count of assault causing grievous bodily harm under Section 319 of PNG Criminal Code Act.
The case was adjourned to Jan 16.
