Accused killer back in court

THE National Court has ordered State and defence lawyers to complete and file pre-trial report for a woman accused of killing a man in Port Moresby a year ago.
Acting Judge Laura Wawun-Kuvi in Waigani made the order on Friday because the State had not followed previous court orders to file pre-trial report for Wari Kundai.
Kundai’s lawyer Friedrich Kirriwom said he had received reports from the Correctional Services would attend to filing pre-trial report.
Judge Wawun-Kuvi fixed today for the matter to return and Kundai was remanded at Bomana prison.
In April, a committal court found enough evidence against Kundai for allegedly killing a man and committed her to a trial in the National Court.
Kundai, from Wapenamanda’s Tsak Valley in Enga, was with her friend and four other men drinking on Dec 31, 2020.
Kundai allegedly saw the victim and his wife outside the fence of a house on Jan 1, 2021, when she went to use the toilet and the victim’s wife asked her for some beer.
It sparked an argument and the victim’s wife threw an empty bottle at Kundai that hit her on the forehead.
She fell when she was hit by a second bottle.
Kundai got up, took an empty bottle and allegedly hit the woman’s husband twice on the head. She also allegedly stabbed the him on his neck and he bled profusely.
The victim was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital but died.
