A MAN charged with damaging property and stealing lied to court that he was not given the police file.
Lawrence Gaspal, 35, from Maramuni in Wabag Central, Enga, told Magistrate Paul Puri Nii in a Waigani committal court last Tuesday that he did not have a police file.
On Tuesday, the arresting officer proved to the court that police file had been served to Gaspal on Feb 10.
“Why did you lie to the court? Do not lie to the court,” Magistrate Nii said on Tuesday.
He gave one month extension for ruling on July 28.
Police alleged that on Nov 10, last year, around 11.30pm to midnight at Section 70, Lot 9, Henao Drive 5-Mile in National Capital District, Gaspal was armed with a bush knife, entered a premises and escaped with cash totalling K4,500.
He was charged with stealing and wilful damage.
