Accused rapist in custody
A-65-YEAR-OLD MAN charged with raping a 12-year-old girl was remanded back into custody by Central Court Magistrate Marcus Nandape yesterday.
Ben Wai, of Tabunum village in Angoram, East Sepik was charged with one count of rape of a child at the Sepik Block, Akuku village in Central.
It was alleged that on Oct 24 at around 10am, Wai entered the girl’s house when she was alone.
The girl went to buy noodles and was pursued by Wai.
Wai allegedly lured the girl with a K10 note before grabbing her and taking her to a nearby bush.
Wai then covered the girl’s mouth before stripping her.
It was alleged that Wai tried inserting his penis into the girl’s vagina but couldn’t.
He was caught by the girl’s brother and taken to the Doa rural police station.
He was referred to the Crime Investigations Division (CID) Central office in Gordon where upon interrogation, he allegedly admitted the offence.
Magistrate Nandape adjourned his case to Nov 28 for mention.
