Accused rapist out on bail

A 46-YEAR-OLD businessman, charged with raping his ex-partner five years ago, was granted bail by the National Court.
Robert Agen, from Sinesine, Chimbu, was arrested and detained on Tuesday for breaching earlier bail conditions.
Acting Judge Tracy Ganaii said Agen’s detention was justified.
“Although you have been complying with most of the bail conditions, appearing in court was one condition you failed to comply,” she said.
“But I will exercise the court discretion in light of all before me.
“I have considered Agen’s previous bail at the district court and am satisfied that he has complied with all bail conditions.”
Judge Tracy then ordered Agen to post an increased bail of K2,000 and his two guarantors to post K500 each.
She fixed next hearing on May 16.
On April 30, 2018, after a heated argument with Hennah Joku (ex-partner) over the phone, Agen allegedly went to pick her up forcefully at her workplace in Gordon and drove to Sogeri Road.
Arriving at Owen’s Corner, he allegedly started to assault Hennah by whipping her back several times with his belt while accusing her of having an affair.
It was also alleged that he then raped her.
