Acknowledge migrants

Letters

WE acknowledged and celebrated the positive contributions made by migrants in host countries on Dec 18.
The United Kingdom has earned an envious reputation for giving sanctuary to men and women who have escaped all forms of persecution which the public holds dear.
It has also accepted highly skilled and talented sportspeople who migrated to the United Kingdom and enriched the country economically, culturally and competitively.
Nurses, teachers, footballers and social workers have profoundly enriched United Kingdom economically.
The country has a long positive history of offering international protection to people who have escaped severe homophobic attacks, civil wars, political persecutions, domestic violence and discrimination on race, nationality and ethnicity.
As the date for departure from European Union jurisdiction looms for Great Britain, which is Dec 31, 2020, it should not shut its doors for genuine refugees and skilled people who are known to have helped advanced the country.
