Activist to attend awards
The National, Tuesday 1st of April, 2014
A Papua New Guinean will attend the third international convention for environmental awards in Germany next month.
The convention provides a platform for participants in all environmental fields to exchange views on environment policies.
Matthew Akon of West Sepik and Madang parentage, will attend the third international convention of environmental laureates at the University of Freiburg from April 10 to 13.
Akon is an environment laureate. He was honoured with an award for outstanding performance as an environmental conservationist.
He was given a Britney Award by Princess Anne in the United Kingdom in May 2010 for his work as an environmental conservationist.
He received K16,000 for being the second best conservationist in the world.
Akon works as a project officer with the Tenkile Conservation Alliance — a non-government organisation dedicated to conserving the Scott’s tree kangaroo (Tenkile) and the Golden Mantled tree kangaroo (Waimang) in the remote Torricelli mountain range, in West Sepik.
