Address crimes in Alotau Town

Letters

I AM concerned with the rise of criminal activities in Alotau Town, Milne Bay.
It is disappointing to see that our leaders have turned a blind eye on what is happening.
We had a two-week battle of arms in the town recently.
Was there something done to assure us that actions were taken to address these issues?
No. Nothing at all.
Come next might be a civil war or a massacre in the town.
The approaches taken to address the Covid-19 pandemic was effective.
Can the same be done to address crimes?
These health approaches can keep us physically healthy.
But if we live in fear of getting robbed or being harmed every day, then we aren’t healthy.
How much more begging do the leaders need to get out of their well-guarded homes/offices to get to where we, the people, are to see for themselves the troubles we faced.
We are the very people who placed the leaders in their offices so they ought to return back to our feet.
We need you to look at our urban areas, settlements and customary land.
Youths are the targeted group that have no direction and regard on the human resource of the township.
About 15 per cent of the town’s population is employed while the rest are in the informal sector.
There’s imbalance. Therefore, there is law and order crisis.
If we are to move forward, this should become the first concern we handle. It’s almost the end of another crime battling year.
Come 2021, who knows what will happen?
