Address crimes on Duke of York Islands

Letters

CRIME on Duke of York Islands in East New Britain are a daily occurrence.
Homebrew is normal as individuals are using its proceeds to fund school fees, build houses and cater for other needs.
School-aged youths, especially males, consume homebrew with no sense of shame.
Fights between factions of societies seem to be accepted as normal.
Similarly, stealing is no longer something to be ashamed of as parents and guardians of thieves don’t seem to care to discipline their children who steal.
Victims have become helpless and don’t know what to do because even if these crimes are reported to police officers at Molot Police Station, they don’t get the timely response.
The unresponsiveness of the police have aided crimes because they go unpunished.
Police on the island always say there is no transport to carry out their duties.
On the contrary, there have been previous police officers in the 80s who walk to villages addressing law and order issues.
I am sure current officers can do the same as their unresponsiveness encourage victims to take matters into their own hands by retaliating to perpetrators to achieving some form of justice for themselves.
East New Britain police command please look into this matter as poor innocent villagers are becoming victims of both the lawbreakers and much worse, the untimely response from the police.
