MOROBE’s nine MPs have been urged to address the demands contained in a petition presented by protestors to provincial authorities on Wednesday.

More than 1,000 people held a peaceful protest that turned rowdy after Governor Kelly Naru, Lae MP Loujaya Toni and other MPs failed to attend.

Former Huon Gulf MP Tukape Masani said people were frustrated because leaders “failed miserably” to attend to law and order issues affecting them.

“Humans are humans and they cannot waste time to gather and voice concerns unless something is wrong somewhere to lead, guide and coordinate the human destiny,” he said.

Youth spokesperson Willie Polis said that Toni needed to address “real issues” affecting youths within the 23 council wards instead of “talking big without reality”.

“We the youths of Morobe are being neglected by our MPs and we are roaming around doing nothing in Lae city,” he said.

“What plans does the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion have

for us?

“Youths have played a pivotal part in change of leadership in Morobe at grassroots level to mandate Toni and Naru; why were they not here?”
