Address holdups along Sepik Highway

Letters

ARMED criminal holdups along the Sepik Highway was an ongoing issue since the days when the highway was built.
Thousands in cash, commodities, store goods, women and girls raped, trucks stoned, passengers assaulted and more lives lost and will continue to be lost along this highway; it’s a never ending issue.
Even if criminal prosecutions take place on the current killing of the young driver of the Kuku Bus, it will never end holdup along the highway.
We who use this highway have fallen victims to criminals for far too long.
We cannot sit and just accept it.
Its 2020, we are humans, just because the highway runs through your village doesn’t mean you can do anything to us.
I call on all businesses, communities, churches and political leaders of the Sepik central area to stand up and find a way out of this.
Let’s look for options.
We’ve been preyed on for far too long.
It is totally unacceptable.
Look for alternate routes to Wewak, or else quickly redevelop Maprik Hayfield, and open road connection linking Maprik-Matapau-Wewak.
Let us bring much-needed services closer to the people and keep our people and money in our area.
We should not to travel the Sepik Highway anymore.
