Address pollution claims

IT IS sad to read about claims of environment pollution of the Wau-Bulolo river system by recent gold mining and, lately, an alleged pollution of the Mubi river in the Southern Highlands by the LNG project.
It seems the government and its relevant agencies are either turning a blind eye or are sluggish in responding to the plight of the the people and to protect the environment against multi-national mining giants.
It bothers me why we continue to read about pollution claims by landowners even though the Department of Environment and Conservation had granted permits to these companies to mine.
These mining giants and oil-gas producers may be responsible and, if so, they should be charged with breaching conditions of their environmental permits.
