Address saga at hospital

Letters

RELEVANT authorities in Morobe should seriously look into the current saga at Angau Memorial Hospital which is nowhere near to fighting the coronavirus pandemic if outbreak occurs in Lae.
There is no visible evidence of structures and facilities established to cater for Covid-19 cases including the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) observed in the emergency station.
No awareness materials and banners or even a signboard has been erected within the hospital precinct to indicate that Angau Memorial Hospital is ready to combat Covid-19.
A new church building built by PNGAus Partnership has been allocated for Covid-19 operations but there is no proper emergency preparedness facilities made available to treat patients suspected of Covid-19 if registered at Angau.
As the world is fighting Covid-19 as the worst 21st century enemy of times, how complacent it is for Angau hospital to ignore this fact when Lae is the second capital city.
Can we have the Morobe Governor intervene and address our front-line workers’ petitions and give them what they want?
Further ignorance on both side, that is, from the Government and the Angau hospital faction will lead to a total collapse of health system and bureaucracy which could not cope with the pandemic once it sweeps through Lae.
This is a wake-up call for all Morobeans, Lae City residents and business community to take heed of the current hype with our referral hospital. Let us collaboratively gauge our effort to bring back normalcy to the Angau Memorial Hospital.
