Adhere to protocols

Letters

PNG is free of Covid-19 but that is not a guarantee that we are completely saved from the deadly virus.
Nevertheless we are highly susceptible to be struck by the virus because it is undeniably true that the world is restless in its wrestle to defeat the pandemic.
Countries with world class health facilities and best medical practices are in greatest failure’s to control the virus.
Therefore the Covid-19 protocol handed down by our government is to be seriously considered as it will save you from the disease.
I’m intrigued about statements made by the State of Emergency (SOE) Controller and Police Commissioner David Manning that Papua New Guineans are still crossing the border into Iran Jaya despite Government’s efforts to guard our border.
This a huge avenue for the virus to be brought into the country.
It is quite understandable that traditional tracks linking countries are hard to be monitored.
But the people at the border should understand that our Government is seriously concerned about our lives by doing whatever it can according to the level of capacity it has.
So you should show a concern of your life by adhering to given protocols and quit crossing the border because there are rapid growth in the number of Covid-19 cases in our neighbouring countries such as Indonesia.
The more you cross the border you are putting your life at higher risk, even the country at risk.
Do not risk the country by crossing the border. I would like to suggest, that the Government;

  • Impose severe penalties for those who are crossing the border if they are caught;
  • Beef up security personnel to guard the border;
  • Ban domestic flights to border provinces; and,
  • For the people at the borders provinces, show the Covid-19 medical report before boarding domestic flights.

Obedience is better than sacrifice, so obey when you are told not to but for your own good.
Prevention is better than cure.
