ENGA provincial administrator Dr Samson Amean is appealing to leaders from Kamas, Teremanda and Kopen to cooperate with police in restoring peace in  Wabag town.
Tension is high following three recent killings there and Amean said it could lead to chaos if the tribesmen of the three deceased men undertook revenge killings.
Police said an education official from Puman was killed following a row over the appointment of the Kopen Secondary School principal.
His tribesmen retaliated and killed two men and seriously injured three others from the Kii tribe in Teremanda village.
Amean said the situation could have worsened if the deputy governor, leaders from the three tribes and police had not intervened.
He questioned why Kopen students came to Wabag town on Monday and damaged 10 provincial administration vehicles, two private vehicles and stoned the glass walls of the Ipatas Centre, the provincial headquarters building.
