A WEEK-long National Girl Guides camp ended last weekend in Madang.
The 21-strong volunteers and three officers from NCD converged on Kranget Island for the meeting.
National Guides adviser Mea Dobunaba said the organisation was slowly dying out as only five teams – Milne Bay, Porgera, NCD, Mt Hagen and Western – took part.
Dobunaba said the association was keen to revive its programme but, “we do not have much funding”.
National trainer Lillian Mirisa said most of the funding was received from the Department of Community Development.
“We need support from the national and provincial governments, including community development offices,” Mirisa said.
She said they would like nothing better than to boost membership past the 2,000 registered members.
Mirisa called on young, vibrant women from the ages of six to 25 to join the Guides.
Next year’s theme will be “We can save our planet” based on the impact of climate change.
