Advocate on cancer

Letters

AS we observe World Cancer Day today, let us bear in mind the difficulties that developing countries are fighting for better facilities for cancer treatment and cancer awareness.
Cancer, which is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells anywhere in a body, kills an , estimated 8.8 million people annually.
Low and middle-income countries face the highest increase in cancer rates unless the exposure to risk factors is reduced.
Many cancers have a high chance of being cure if detected early and treated accordingly.
Common cancer types such as breast, cervical, oral and colorectal cancer are largely curable if they are detected early.
Developing countries lack vaccinations and screening programmes which are effective interventions to reduce the global burden of these specific types of cancer.
Together, let us aim to save millions of lives by advocating for basic vaccination and screening programmes in poorer countries.
