THE chairman of the Gigira Development Corporation Stanis Talu has called on the government and developers of the PNG LNG project ExxonMobil to immediately find a solution to stop any potential disturbances by unsuccessful seed capital applicants.
Talu said there were more than 1,300 groups from the LNG project area who had applied for the seed capital.
He said unless the government and the developers addressed how to accommodate these groups, the project was likely to be hindered.
Talu said as chairman of Gigira Development Corporation, he believed all the applicants should be considered to benefit from the seed capital.
He said the seed capital does not belong to one or two landowner groups only but to every landowner to enable them to participate in the project.
Talu said to do this, 40% from each of the seed capital for Juha, Angora, PDL1 and PDL7 should be used to accommodate all landowners who have submitted their applications for the seed capital without any
discrimination.
“I have always emphasised over and over…at the umbrella benefits sharing agreement (UBSA) in Kokopo and during the signing of the licensed-benefit sharing agreement (BSA) in Hides that this was the only way forward to solving issues,” Talu said.
He said he will continue to stand firm on what he believes is the way forward for the success of the LNG project and that was for everyone to at least take a share of the seed capital to participate in the multi-billion LNG project.
