THE AFLPNG senior supervisory board has welcomed the support by seven corporate sponsors for football clubs participating in the BSP AFL premiership competition in Port Moresby.

The corporate sponsors gave K10, 000 each to the clubs before games commenced last Saturday at the Amini Park.

The teams and their sponsors are Dockers FC (Lamana Hotel), Boroko FC (Kwila Insurance), Defence FC (SP Brewery), Bomana FC (Hitron), University Tigers (Moore Printing), Gordons Kokofas (Remington) and Koboni FC (BSP).

Chairman Ian Clyne said at the presentation last Saturday that such support would not only boost the players’ morale but contribute to the development of the code.

“We are grateful for such corporate support as it is a sign of the commitment they have to AFL in PNG and their faith in its future,” Clyne said.

He said the board was confident that with corporate backing, football was back in force in Port Moresby and should see improvements nationwide.

“Corporate support will contribute to raising the standard of football and lay the foundation for its success because with certainty and stability that come from corporate funding, the commitment by the AFL and the board’s support will enable stability and growth to the competition and the football code,” he said.

Clyne assured the sponsors that the senior advisory board had set stringent rules and requirements on players and clubs to enable a playing environment that advocates fairness.

“This will ensure the success and marketability of the competition and we will build on from these successes,” he said.
