AFL events get approval

AFL competitions and programmes nationwide have been given the green light following the approval from the Papua New Guinea AFL Commission.
In a statement to all associations, commission chairman Loi Bakani said the approval granted by the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF) would see no spectators for provinces with rising Covid-19 cases.
“Under the protocols and guidelines, the national pandemic controller and PNGSF have advised that there will not be any spectators during games in the regions where there is evidence of increase in Covid-19 cases,” he said.
“After going through the screening process with PNGSF and the Office of National Pandemic Controller, AFL was finally given the approval to start its competitions and programmes throughout the country.
“Furthermore, as stipulated in the protocols and guidelines of our game, it is mandatory that all these measures be followed during training and on game day. Hygiene and social distancing is the only way to reduce the risk of contracting the virus. It will be your responsibility to ensure that your clubs and spectators must always adhere to the rules and regulations that have been approved. The protocols and guidelines are not optional but strictly mandatory and your efforts in policing and adhere to them will be very much appreciated.”
The no-spectator policy for provinces at risk of Covid-19 remains in effect with the national competitions for rugby league and soccer still operating without fans.
