The Niukick Port Moresby Schools AFL competition will see 10 primary schools competing in the grand final this weekend in their respective divisions.
The programme involving 22 schools started in April at the Colts Oval in Bisini Park. Schools fielded U-12 and 1-15 boys teams and U-13 and U-15 girls teams.
“After some excellent rounds of footy from all the schools, we have come down to the grand final for all divisions this Saturday at Colts Oval, Boroko,” AFL PNG administration manager Freda Keen said.
The finalists of the 10 school AFL programme include: Coronation; Sevese Morea; Boroko; Bomana; Wardstrip; St Peters; Ted Diro; Taurama; Wardstrip and Hagara primary schools.
Keene said in the U-12 boys division,  Coronation Primary School will play Sevese Morea Primary School this Saturday.
“Wardstrip Primary School will be fielding teams in the Boys U-13 and U-15 divisions,” she said.
“St Peters Primary School U-13s and Hagara Primary School U-15s will have the task of stopping Wardstrip from making it a double sweep in the finals.”
She said it has also been a great season of junior girls footy, with a big number showing interest and participating in the sport of AFL.
“It is a great achievement by the AFL PNG development team.”
“In the girls divisions U-13 and U-15 respectively, we will have Boroko Primary School facing off with Bomana Primary School and Ted Diro Primary School going up against Taurama Primary School.
“In every sport we see the best performances by individuals and teams trying to outsmart and outskill their opponents to reach the pinnacle of their sport. The schools mentioned have done exactly that to reach their finals.
“Congratulations to the schools in the grand final and also to the schools that took part in the Niukick Port
