CENTRAL province’s new MPs were sworn into the provincial assembly at Konedobu in Port Moresby yesterday.
New Governor Robert Agarobe and open MPs William Samb (Goilala), Lekwa Gure (Rigo), Oeter Isoaimo (Kairuku-Hiri)and Sir Puka Temu (Abau) were sworn in by senior provincial magistrate Jimmy Tapa.
Agarobe acknowledged the leadership and the work of outgoing governor Kila Haoda and said he would continue with some of the work the previous administration had been doing.
“I do not want to reinvent the wheel but I will be reviewing these projects and initiatives to align them with the plan I have for the province” Agarobe said.
He said his plan involved three major reforms that would steer Central in a new direction and that included rebuilding all district government headquarters, economic empowerment of our rural subsistence farmers through commercial farming initiatives and introduce village-based volunteer service system.
“All our district headquarters of Kwikila for Rigo district, Kupiano for Abau, Bereina for Kairuku-Hiri and Tapini for Goilala will be rebuilt,” he said.
“Quality infrastructure will be built for the public servants and these include housing, schools and hospitals, and sporting facilities, airstrips as well as an improved administrative infrastructure.
“Central province has no headquarters and no identity at all over the past years and we would like to change that during this term of parliament and we will make sure to have our provincial headquarters at Bautama.”
Agarobe said there were many new plans he had for the province and they would be made known to the people in due course.
“I believe in teamwork and I have confidence in all our open MPs and we will be working together to serve our people,” he said.
