A MAN, 61, who was among 25 who graduated with computer skills, believes that age should not hinder one’s desire to continue educating oneself.

Fredy Waromi from West Sepik  told The National in Port Moresby last week that he had no idea about computers until he became a participant of the Ginigoada Multi-Learning Centre.

“I am a computer illiterate person, I have no idea about computers”, he said.

“That’s why I am interested in doing computer training. In my one-month training, even though it’s basic, it has opened up my mind to computer knowledge.”

He said in 2013, he attended training on financial skills at Morata.

“Following up from that training, I was asked to choose a course. So I chose to do computing,” he said.

“Actually when I finished my financial training, I was interested in setting up a small business but nowadays you know we need computer skills to do all this things.”

He said young people in his community made fun of him saying he was very old but still wanted to study.

“I tell them that I am old in your eyes but my mind is still young and I want to study about the things I want to know,” he said.

He said his aim was to further his knowledge and be an example to young people.

He is currently pursuing an English course at the University of Papua New Guinea and has already finished the basic part. He will take up the intermediate part and in October complete the advanced part.

“When I finish, I plan to further my education by studying permanently at UPNG though I am an old man,” he said.
