Agent to act for TPA in London
The National, Friday 24th Febuary 2012
PAPUA New Guinea hopes to attract more tourists from the United Kingdom and Europe through a tourism marketing agency in London.
The PNG Tourism Promotion Authority has awarded Lee Travel Consulting a contract to establish an office in London on its behalf.
Leith Isaac, the authority’s director of marketing, said: “We have recently had a steady increase in tourism from both the UK and Europe and feel strongly that this market will benefit from the services our own local office can offer.”
Lee Travel Consulting won the contract beating more than 20 other marketing agencies who applied last November.
The UK office will be manned by the Lee company’s managing director Chris Lee, accounting director Robin Russell-Pavier and head of public relations Judy Feller.
PNG is now more easily accessible from Europe via the Far East and Australasia as Air Niugini operates regular services from Hong Kong, Singapore, Jakarta, Manila, Tokyo, Brisbane, Sydney and Cairns.
They are represented in the UK by Flight Directors.
Tour operators in the UK are promoting PNG as a “fascinating country which has many diverse experiences to offer the tourist”.
They say the country is a “coveted destination for the ornithologist and its warm equatorial climate offers the perfect environment for all aquatic activities.
“For the diver there is a wealth of spectacular coral reefs to explore on the coastline, for the fishing enthusiast many miles of unspoilt rivers as well as coastal waters provide a challenging experience.
“The spectacular scenery offers the perfect environment for trekking, mountain climbing and bushwalker, ensuring the ultimate adventurers for the traveller.”
