HELA Governor and leader of the People’s United Assembly Anderson Agiru said yesterday he would cast his vote for Kevin Rudd and Labor if he were eligible for the Australia national election.

Agiru said  the Australian prime minister was a friend of PNG and the people of the South Pacific and wished him luck in tomorrow’s elections.

“This is the most important elections for us after PNG’s own national elections,” Agiru said.

“Whoever is elected into office will affect this country’s development finances through Australia’s aid to PNG.

“Abbot and the Liberals have already stated that the aid bill will be slashed as a cost-saving measure if they are elected to office.

“This will impact PNG in a big way.  Rudd has a soft spot for PNG. He is about the neighbours. He is about the Pacific. I wish him luck in Saturday’s elections.”

Agiru, whose province hosts the liquefied natural gas project, said Australia was where the sovereign wealth fund was held and he would prefer a head of government who was familiar with PNG.

Australia goes to the polls tomorrow. Unlike in PNG, the results will be known by the end of the day.
