Agreement to boost trade, shipping
The National, Friday February 26th, 2016
THE signing of a sister- port agreement between PNG Ports Corporation and Shenzhen port in China will enable trade facilitation and encourage shipping lines.
Chief executive officer of PNG Ports Stanley Alphonse joined his counterpart from Shenzhen Municipality Xuefeng Ai at the signing ceremony in Port Moresby.
“We won’t become Shenzhen port overnight but we believe that there are strategic reasons why this relationship is established,” Alphonse said.
“We at PNG Ports look forward to maintaining and fostering this relationship in terms of port development, operations and management.”
He said Port Moresby was a port city like Shenzhen established during the colonial days.
“The port of Moresby is named after the English captain John Moresby who sailed into Fairfax Harbor and named it after himself,” he said.
“It is the city of government, business and with the population of nearly half a million people.
“It is unique as it is one of the few capital cities in the world which is not connected to other parts of the nation by road.
“This makes our task important both locally an internationally.”
