THE the inaugural Ahi rugby league off-season ended with mixed results, but the class of the younger Ahi players was commendable.
With the conclusion of the competition, the six Ahi villages of Yalu, Kamkumung, Hengali, Butibam, Wagang and Yanga can now  be represented in the three divisions of Lae rugby league competition through their own clubs this season.
The most outstanding performances were from players in the U19 and B-grade divisions who won the hearts of the vocal supporters of mostly Aihi villagers with their brilliant rugby league skills.
Wayang Sharks halfback Jendrick Sinamau stood tall against the Kamkumung Warriors in the U19 division by kicking the winning field goal with less than a minute remaining before fulltime, to give his team mates something to celebrate with their 1-0 win.
In the B-grade match, Kamkumung Warriors beat Hebu Lewe with only a try scored in a match which saw both teams equally-matched in both attack and defence.
The A-grade match between Yalu Aliawong and Hebu Lewe was forfeited by LRL officials after Yalu supporters invaded the field and disrupted the match which was under the control of LRL most senior referee Luxxie Metta.
The match was 20 minutes away from fulltime.
