ONE of the leading cricket associations in Milne Bay, Ahioma Cricket Association (ACA) has unveiled their new cricket mat for their upcoming cricket season.

Over the past couple of years, the ACA had been borrowing the synthetic cricket mat from the Garuahi Cricket Association (GCA).

Through some sheer hard work and a fundraising drive, ACA were able to raise enough funds to purchase a mat for their upcoming competition.

President of ACA handed over some equipment to the GCA to thank them for allowing his association to use their mat whilst they were trying to purchase their own.

Milne Bay, Regional Cricket Manager (RCM), Simon Deiwillie was on hand to witness the unveiling of the new mat and challenged the GCA to try to start up their own competition.

During the ceremony, the U15 and U13 boys and girls soft-ball finals competition took place and had the opportunity to test out the new mat.

Cricket in Milne Bay can trace its roots to the early 1900s when the London Missionary Society which had a presence in the province introduced the sport to the indigenous population.
