CENTRAL police received K10,000 from Kairuku-Hiri MP Paru Aihi to assist in their festive season operations.

According to Central provincial police commander Chief Supt John Maru, the funds would go towards incidentals or purchasing rations for police personnel in the field.

Maru did not disclose any operational details but said that police were busy carrying out awareness at this point in the operations.

He said Central was not a volatile province and is expecting safe festive celebrations.

Aihi said the funding was given annually to assist in police operations.

“I am absolutely confident that the money will be used wisely.

“Police operations must be adequately funded without seeking additional funding from business houses or MPs.”

He added that sufficient funding could assist in police effectively carrying out their duties to ensure peace and order.

Aihi said funding police operations was vital in that donor countries could have confidence to also invest in the country when there was peace and order.
