Aiken joins Newcrest board

 NEWCREST Mining Ltd has appointed Philip Aiken as a non-executive director effective from last Friday. 

A company statement says Aiken brings to the Newcrest board extensive Australian and international business experience principally in the engineering and resources sectors. 

In 1997, Aiken joined BHP Billiton as BHP Petroleum president until 2003 and group president Energy from 2004 to 2006. He is currently the chairman of Avevaplc, a senior independent director of Kazakhmys Plc and of Essar Energy Plc, a director of Essar Oil Ltd, and a non-executive director of National Grid Plc. 

Newcrest chairman Don Mercer said:  “Phil has extensive experience in the resources sector both within Australia and internationally and I look forward to the contribution he will make to Newcrest.”
