MANY of you (if you are a student) will be preparing for examinations. Let me help you prepare for them.
If you are in Grades 8, 10, 12 or attending a college or university, do take note.
The type of grades you get on your certificates (or transcripts) will determine whether you continue to the next level or leave the school you are in now.
That is why you have to prepare well for your exams.
For a final year student in university, the type of grades you get will determine whether you get the best job offers or not.
(The best firms want students with B-average or better grades.)
Therefore, you must do your very best to score the best grades.
One of my best teachers (she passed away in the 1990s) told us
decades ago: “Whenever you do a course, you must always aim for the top grade. If you fail to get the top grade, you will get the second top grade – but you are still on top.”
To get those good grades you must spend more time in studies.
That would mean, you have to stop doing unnecessary things that will take up time. Such things include :
l Telling stories instead of studying;
l Playing for hours instead of studying;
l Listening to music or playing the guitar for hours; or,l Watching movies.
A few years ago, I was requested by a woman to help her niece in a particular subject.
In helping the Grade 12 student, I asked if she spent time listening to her stereo while working.
She said: “My aunt has taken off my stereo from me for these days before the exam.”
I told her that was good because to do very well in many subjects, you must never have the stereo/radio/phone turned on while studying. You will definitely be distracted.
The good news was the girl scored well in her exams to be selected for a course at one of our universities.
I advise you to do the same.Get rid of things or activities that will distract you from studies at this time.
Your girl/boy friend must respect you at this time and not call you at midnight for a chat. Tell her/him to talk to you later – possibly after the exams. It is my wish that you be focused to get the best grades.
