MY colleagues and I are about to attend a conference in Mumbai, India. A professor and his wife from Columbus, Ohio are also attending the same conference and we realised that there is a huge difference in airfares. A return ticket from Memphis to Mumbai (via Europe) is only US$1,300 (K3400) but the best price we could find for a flight from Port Moresby to Mumbai is US$6,000. This is not even including the cost of the domestic flight into Port Moresby. The return cost of Air India from Singapore to Mumbai is US$330. Something is wrong somewhere. The prices for flights from PNG are outrageous.
